Paws, Panting, and Puddle Prep : Mumbai’s Pet-Weather Survival Guide

Let’s talk about the real weather forecast in Mumbai:

🔥☀️ Hot, 🫠 hotter, 💦 sticky, and then—BAM—🌧️ it’s raining sideways while the sun is still out.

And stuck in the middle of this moody monsoon pre-game are our poor pets. One minute they’re panting like they’ve run a marathon, next minute they’re dodging puddles like they’re in a Mario Kart track.

As a full-time dog mom to Milo (The Snow Queen) and Bella (The German Security Force), here’s my quick-and-candid cheat sheet to keep your fur babies safe, cool, and not completely emotionally fried this season. 🥵

1. Cut the Walk, Not the Wag

Between 11 AM and 5 PM, Mumbai footpaths could fry an omelet. If you wouldn’t walk barefoot, your pet shouldn’t either.

➡️ Morning walks by 9 AM. Evening walks after 6:30 PM.

➡️ Touch test the pavement. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws. 🐾

2. Paw-tective Gear Is In

Yes, your pet may look like a reluctant runway model in those rubber booties — but would you rather deal with fungal infections, burns, or dirty paw prints all over your couch?

➡️ Keep paw balm handy. Coconut oil works too.

➡️ Dry paws thoroughly after every walk — fungus LOVES Mumbai. 💧

3. Hydration Station, Always

If your dog is drinking like a camel prepping for a desert safari, that’s normal. The heat sucks the life out of them too.

➡️ Keep cool drinking water available at all times.

➡️ Bonus points for adding ice cubes. Even better: frozen chicken broth popsicles. 🪟

4. Ventilation > AC

Not every dog is a fan of full-blast AC. But they all hate humid, suffocating air.

➡️ Ceiling fan + open windows (with safety grills) = pet-approved breeze

➡️ No closed balconies or sun-trap rooms in the afternoon. 🦴

5. Appetite? Mood? Energy? Watch it all.

Just like us, they get cranky and lethargic.

➡️ Less appetite = okay. But refusing food for 2 meals? Call your vet.

➡️ Random barking or zoomies? That’s heat-induced irritation. ☔️

6. And When It Rains…

Milo LOVES puddles. Bella? Hates them like they owe her money.

➡️ Keep a dry towel near the door.

➡️ Rinse paws even if it was “just a drizzle.”

➡️ Thunder jackets or calming sprays if your dog gets anxious during storms.

Final Thoughts (aka the Bark Behind the Article)

Mumbai’s in-between weather is like a moody ex — hot, cold, dramatic, and unpredictable. But our pets? They rely on us to translate the chaos into comfort.

So, if you’re sweating through your T-shirt and your dog’s looking at you like, “Ma, fix this,” — just know, you’re not alone. We’re all out here bribing with treats, dodging muddy paw prints, and Googling “how to dry a dog quickly without losing your mind.”

Stay cool. Stay calm. And give them an extra belly rub from me.

With love (and dog hair on my shirt),

Tishya 🐾
